I'm a better "Christian" than you, and I'm atheist.

Christians are supposed to follow the teachings of Jesus. Be kind. Be meek. Pay your taxes. Do good things for those less fortunate than yourself.
Where are these lessons in the good old "Christian" right?
They don't exist.
These people tell you to live morally, yet they do not. They tell you to be a good patriot, yet they are not. They preach about the sanctity of the United States Constitution, which they wish to change!
They aren't kind, or meek. They complain about taxation and they hate helping others.
What they ARE is AFRAID.
Old white "Christians" have been the core of US power for CENTURIES. And they've fought sharing that power since the birth of this Nation. They've fought against rights for blacks, women, gays, Jews, atheists. You name it, they fought it.
They are a legacy of hate and fear.
I believe that all men are created equal.
I believe in the privilege of freedom of religion.
I believe that if you work hard, you can have some measure of success.
I believe in education for everyone.
I believe that some people need help.
I believe that people deserve my empathy and compassion.
I believe that being kind is good.
I believe that the Constitution of the United States stands for something that no other nation has, and that changing, ignoring, or removing said Constitution, would make this great Country no better than those that oppress women, religions, minorities and the poor.
That makes me a better "Christian" AND a better American than you.

The Voice of the Middle

Call me progressive, call me crazy, call me what you will, but I am DAMN SICK AND TIRED of OLD WHITE MEN telling me what my politics should be.
I AM NOT A SOCIALIST!!
I AM YOUR VOICE, and we are NOT being heard!!!

So I will attempt, with this blog, to cover MODERATE issues, with a MIDDLE OF THE ROAD slant and I promise to search for FACTS and weed out the truth from all the ranting of the fat old guys, the little skinny vegan crazies, so that the moms, and dads, and normal every day folks will have a better idea of what's going on and form their own opinions.

So, point number one.
No one wants a Socialist American State. That would be dumb. I work hard for my money and I plan to keep most of it, but I do feel a responsibility to society. Now, there's a difference between social responsibility and wanting to hand over all you money to a woman who keeps spawning offspring to get more of a welfare check. For instance, I am perfectly willing to fund a program to help people learn to take care of themselves, but I'm not GIVING anyone money. Sorry, I work, so should you.

Point number two.
Progressive doesn't mean crazy idiot socialist liberal. It means wanting to keep up with Japan in science, China in manufacturing, India in tech support. It means some things really do have to change because no change is called stagnation, and stagnation breeds disease. So get over it. Change is sometimes necessary. I don't want the US to be overtaken by someone else's brilliant technology. Not only that, I'd really like my kids to get a decent damn education.

And number 3 that REALLY pisses me off, why is ok to DEREGULATE corporations, give them all the power in the world to do whatever they want to do, but then turn around and REGULATE MY MORALS?? Is that ok? I can see regulating ethics, for EVERYONE, corporate types as well, but my morals?? I mean, what if I have an entirely different set of beliefs than the regulator??

Number 4, all the people telling me how to think, are white, male and wealthy. They are NOT my people. My people are every color of the rainbow, they are every gender, they aren't all heterosexual old men, and they are NOT wealthy. And I'm sorry, but wealthy people have a totally different view of what America is. And I don't think it's very realistic.

Let me know your thoughts.
